Bolivian authorities have arrested a former government minister who is under investigation for alleged corruption as part of a judicial process aimed at uncovering possible irregularities that occurred during his time in office.

Police officers executed the arrest under a court order issued by Bolivia’s judicial authorities, and the former official has been turned over to the appropriate authorities, who will pursue the legal process to establish his judicial status as the investigation progresses.

Prosecutors report that the case centers on suspected mismanagement of public funds and government contracts, with investigators aiming to establish whether any criminal acts occurred in the administration of state resources or in the contracting process for goods and services during his period in office.

The case is part of a broader series of investigations launched by Bolivian authorities into former members of previous administrations. Prosecutors say the inquiries are intended to establish individual responsibility based on the evidence collected throughout the investigation.

The former minister’s defense team has rejected the accusations, stating that their client intends to cooperate with the judicial proceedings while fully upholding his right to due process. At the same time, authorities indicated that the inquiry will move forward as further evidence is collected before the courts issue a final ruling on the matter.
